A Decade of Argento
It is his two films from the 70s – Suspiria and Deep Red – that the Italian master of suspense is most celebrated for, but Dario Argento’s golden age of big-screen kills with highly stylized visuals continued into the 80s. Following Inferno (1980), the giallo-surrealist mix sequel to Suspiria, Argento returned to his traditional giallo roots with Tenebrea (1982), combined hard-edged thrills with dark fantasy and the supernatural in Phenomena (1985), and brought it home with a blood-soaked, Vertigo-like mystery set in a grand opera house in Opera (1987). Don’t miss the essential works of the Visconti of Violence Thursdays night throughout July.
