After his platoon unintentionally fired on innocent civilians in Baghdad, an American soldier finds it impossible to recover from the deadly incident years after the war. Based on Dexter Filkins’ New Yorker article, Reed Van Dyk’s powerful debut feature is anchored by emotional performances by Boyd Holbrook as the soldier, and Haim Abbas as the wife and mother of the victims whom he seeks for forgiveness and resolution. “Atonement comes to a place that, in a lesser film, might appear sentimental but in this one is bracingly real. You can feel the movie burning away the fog of war.” – Owen Gleiberman, Variety
