Writer and director Paul Morrisey (Flesh), the late icon of NY underground cinema, presents a transgressive interpretation of Mary Shelley’s classic novel. Deranged scientist, Baron von Frankenstein (Udo Kier), with the help of his bizarre assistant, Otto, is determined to create a new master race, of which he will be the leader. To achieve his objective, he constructs two perfect ‘zombies’ from an assemblage of body parts, intending them to mate. An unapologetic embrace of gore and eroticism, this is a darkly humorous cult classic that blends horror and camp. It was released shortly before Morrissey exited the Factory and split from Warhol, of whom he was publicly critical in his later years. We are screening the film on what would have been Morrissey’s 87th birthday.
