Twelve years after his last feature film, Salles returns with a harrowing, powerfully executed historical drama about Brazil’s military dictatorship in the early 1970s. The story, told through the eyes of Eunice Paiva (Fernanda Torres), the wife of a civil engineer and politician Rubens Paiva (Selton Mello) who was disappeared by the regime, was based on the book of the same name by Marcelo Rubens Paiva, Rubens’ son.
