Janusz Korczak began as a writer (it was the pseudonym of Henryk Goldszmit, a Polish Jew), then an advocate for human rights for children, and finally a doctor who founded an orphanage based on those rights. After the Nazi invasion of Poland, Korczak could flee the country, but instead he remains to protect the orphans in his care. Written by Agnieszka Holland (Green Border, Franz), Korczak is an unsentimental study in heroism, shot in an austere black and white by acclaimed cinematographer Robby Müller.
