In 1870s Russia, a group of nihilist revolutionaries work to undermine czarist Russia, but at the same time find themselves at odds with each other. Wajda directed a renowned stage version that streamlined Dostoyevsky’s unwieldy novel. With noted screenwriters Agnieszka Holland and Jean-Claude Carrière, Wajda opened the play up into a portrait of an era. Featuring fine performances by Lambert Wilson and Isabelle Huppert.
