Robert Eggers’ feature debut quickly established him as a master of folk-horror. Focusing on the teenage daughter (Anya Taylor-Joy in her feature film debut), a Puritan family is plagued by mysterious forces of witchcraft and evil as tragedy after tragedy befalls them. “An atmospheric chiller rooted in the fertile soil of religious zealotry, social isolation and original sin.” – Mark Kermode, Observer.
